National Handwashing Awareness Week (Dec 1–7)

Clean Hands. Safe Care.

National Handwashing Awareness Week reminds us how a small habit can prevent major health problems. Proper hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of infections in hospitals, homes and communities. At Ansari Hospital, we focus on safe practices every day, and this week gives us a chance to highlight why handwashing matters so much.

Why Handwashing Is Important

Your hands come in contact with hundreds of surfaces each day. Germs can transfer easily from one person to another. Simple handwashing removes dirt, viruses and bacteria before they reach your eyes, mouth or nose. For patients, visitors and staff, this basic step reduces the risk of hospital-acquired infections and keeps everyone safer.

When You Should Wash Your Hands

You should clean your hands:

  • Before eating or touching your face
  • After using the washroom
  • After coughing, sneezing or touching shared surfaces
  • Before and after caring for a patient
  • After removing gloves
  • Whenever your hands look or feel dirty

In a hospital setting, these moments are critical for protecting vulnerable patients.

How to Wash Your Hands Properly

A good handwash takes about 20 seconds.

  1. Wet your hands with clean water.
  2. Apply soap and lather well.
  3. Scrub between fingers, under nails and the back of your hands.
  4. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. Dry with a clean towel or air dryer.

If water isn’t available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Ansari Hospital’s Commitment to Hygiene

Our teams follow strict infection-control protocols every day. Hand hygiene stations are available throughout the hospital for patients, attendants and staff. Regular audits, training sessions and awareness programs help maintain high standards of cleanliness and patient safety.

A Small Habit That Protects Everyone

Handwashing is simple, fast and powerful. This National Handwashing Awareness Week, let’s remind ourselves and others to make it a routine. Clean hands protect you, your family and your community.
